Mesquite City Animal Shelter

On 3-9-26 I made a phone call to the Mesquite animal control for a possum that was outside our place of business with babies. They had an animal control officer come out in a timely manner. The officer called me and told me he was on his way and showed up within 30 minutes as he said. When he arrived this officer was very professional and compassionate towards the possum and her babies. He was able to delicately trap her. He said he was taking her to a rescue where she would stay until the babies could be released with her. Just wanted to give a 5 star review for this officer for everything he did. He was very good at his job.

If I could leave no stars, I would. I had a very disappointing experience with Ellie Guthrie, the field supervisor at the Mesquite Animal Shelter. From the moment I walked in, I felt disrespected while simply trying to do the right thing by helping a dog. Ellie insinuated the dog was probably mine and that I was trying to dump it, even though the dog was microchipped to another person with an invalid phone number. Before bringing him in, we had posted on the “This is Mesquite” Facebook page and the Ring app to locate the owner, and I also showed that someone else had reported the same dog the day before. She questioned whether I even lived in Mesquite because my ID had an expired address. Despite showing my car insurance, I still had to provide my W-2 before they would take the dog a pro

Today we adopted a kitten at the shelter. The staff was friendly and helpful, and the process was simple. Update: he's much bigger now and a total menace but no regrets 😆

If I could give ZERO I would. The old white woman with white hair should not be in a position of caring for vulnerable animals. She was abhorrent on the customer service side, she never even looked me in the eyes while she’s attempting to lecture me of the letter of the law. I did everything as per the city of Mesquite website and animal services failed to respond. When I brought in the stray puppy I’m treated like a criminal by that woman. City of Mesquite needs to do better with their employees, which they have been repeatedly warned about in several reviews.

Found two kittens all alone and starving no mom in sight. Gave it a few days to see if mom came back and nothing. I took them in from the rain and cold. Posted them on Facebook and one got adopted. I couldn't keep the other one. Took her to the shelter and got scolded and disrespected by the employees for rescuing this kitten from under my tire. They told me to leave it alone and let it be a street cat. That's an amazing idea so she can get pregnant and have 20 kittens in one year and live on the street instead of being housed , fed , and fixed by an institution I help pay for with taxes and property taxes. Got it. If you're mad you have to help and save animals I suggest finding a new job. 👍🏽
