I have nothing but good things to say about this rescue. I filled out my application and they reached back out to me within a week or so. We set up a “meet and greet” For the two kittens that I was interested in. My girl Guava was in a kitten room with lots to do and other kittens to play with. The boy Big Hunk (now Mango) came from a foster home and I was able to have some privacy to meet him without the foster dad there. They didn’t rush me at all, I spent about an hour with the kittens seeing if we were a match. I was able to sign the adoption papers that day and they offered a buy one get one half off for the adoption fees. That was great because the starter fees for kittens can be overwhelming. I used to volunteer in the kennel here in high school and I have nothing but positive things to say about my experience. The staff is wonderful and all the animals are well cared for. No matter what condition an animal is in when they arrive, WSHS does not give up on them and the staff will do everything in their power to make sure every animal has a fighting chance at finding their forever family. My parents have also adopted a dog here three separate times, the most recent being a few months ago. When I am ready to adopt, this place will be my first stop ❤️

My family fostered dogs through WSHS for many years when I was younger and had a great experience with them, so when I decided I was ready to adopt some cats I knew they were a shelter I wanted to look at. I'm glad to see that they've only continued to improve through the years. Staff was incredibly kind and helpful. Their adoption application is very robust, which I appreciate - they clearly care about making sure their animals go to good homes. They responded to my application quickly and I was able to get an appointment for that week. The cat room was spacious and clearly well kept, and it was easy to meet with the cats in a relaxed environment. We recently adopted an orange tabby kitten from WSHS and had such a wonderful experience there! The animals are well cared for, the place is super clean, and the staff is very professional, helpful and friendly. Roberta helped us through the process and was willing to show me the cats (even though my overly eager self had just put an application in earlier that day) - I wouldn’t suggest doing what I did, but it goes to show you how great they are! My friend came along with me the first day I met some of the cats and she loved the shelter so much and has already signed up to be a volunteer. I would recommend West Suburban to anyone!

I had a really positive and easy experience adopting my first cat here. Once you send in an adoption form, they'll respond the next day with next steps and who's still available. They were also open to answering all my questions since I'm a new cat owner, so I really appreciated their patience. In the future I'll definitely come back here to look for a second best friend for my buddy
