My first time purchasing, checking out this wonderful pet store. They keep there cages very clean and the pets looks happy and healthy , I decided to purchase a pet hedgehog and she’s such a happy little girl. I named her Mable. Also Great staff, very helpful. Best pet store I’ve been in. Definitely will be back again

I do not like to leave negative reviews for any locally owned mom and pop stores. I am a huge supporter of them. But, what was done to me yesterday was sneaky and wrong! Watch your receipts people! I went into Peterson's yesterday to buy some crickets for my pet. First asking the lady working in the store how much the small ones were. She said 10 cents each. So me thinking that wasn't a bad price I asked for 30 of them. She grabbed them and we get to the cash register to pay and I was charged $6.25. I gave her 6 dollars and sent my bf to my car to get a quarter being I had no change in my purse and they only take cash. She said nevermind on the quarter acting like she was giving me a deal. We purchased A cockatiel on 11/25 from Thai business in Rome, NY as a gift for our daughter (20yr old) going in to this we ( my wife and I) had a basic understanding of birds, and care my daughter however is extremely well versed when it comes to birds and their care. The first issue I noted was the fact that they only accept cash, maybe this is because it’s a small local business and I get that but when you are making purchases of > 400.00 that just doesn’t sit well with me personally. I overlooked it and chalked it up to a small business not wanting to incur fees of accepting card payments. Fine. This is not a chain retail pet store. And anyone that favors small business, will become, dare I say...addicted to Petersons. The store is small. And the store is stuffed with anything you need for your pet(s). The staff is extremely friendly & courteous and always capable of answering your pet-related questions. Need something they do not have in-stock? They'll order-for-you. Put-it on lay-away, and pay-off a little every week. The critters are the favorites of the kids. Every kid wants a gerbil, hamster, parakeet, cockatiel, a over-sized lizard, hermit crabs, frogs. The boys want a snake(no snakes in the house!) or if they are a little bizarre, they want a rat the size of a dog. And every kid wants some tropical/saltwater fish. I feel horrible leaving a bad review for a mom and pop but im just disappointed in the quality of their fish care. We keep giving them the benefit of the doubt and have returned after the first set of fish and frogs have died of bloat. One fish was sold to us as "pregnant" and a few days later showed severe signs of bloat and passed away, and the other purchased the same day came home to us realizing he had mouth rot and infected the whole tank before we even realized it. Today I thought I'd give them another shot and everything looked fine until I put the fish into the tank and watched them to see how they were getting along, when I noticed they were covered in white specks... fungus. So once again our whole tank is compromised, fortunately we still had anti fungus left over from the last
