I just adopted Scruffy, a senior male terrier from here. The staff were all fabulous, from my first visit, to answering my many questions, to the adoption. All staff members were helpful, knowledgeable about the dog I was adopting and very willing to help. He had been at the shelter for a while because he has a bite history and at 10+ years old, he has some trauma as well. He had had to be re-homed twice! (I believe.) The staff was very transparent about his behavior and his needs. It was clear to me that they cared a great deal about him finding the right home and was very accommodating to my needs. I went to Hannaford on Pleasant Street in Dracut and saw a dog crossing the street alone. I stopped and rescued him. Then I went to the Dracut police station and they contacted animal control. I received a call back within 3 minutes and they told me I could take him to the Lowell Humane Society. When I arrived, they treated me very well and the dog I rescued was treated excellently. This was an amazing experience! The shelter was clean and they allowed us to open the cat cages and interact with the furry little ones. After making a decision and some paperwork, we had our fluffy pal. His name was Beecher at the time. We changed it to Lynx in honor of his fluff tipped ears. He was curious and adorable. It was a pleasure to watch him grow. Right now he is 1 and a half and growing fine. I recommend this experience to all. We are seriously considering getting him another friend!

LHS has a wide assortment of pets, from among which we adopted an adult kitty. Staff spent a lot of time with us, in addition to the questionnaire we completed before our visit. They truly care about the animals in their care and that they go to good homes.

The man at the front desk is so nice and helpful. I filled out an application with him yesterday and he told me to come back today and I would be able to adopt a kitten-they were spayed yesterday that is why I could not do it yesterday. I got there at 12:15 and a woman with purple hair was incredibly rude to me. I had been waiting for a half hour to see the kittens and the woman with the purple hair did not bring any kittens out for me during this time. She said she wanted to observe me with them which is understandable but the interaction felt unnecessarily dismissive and unwelcoming. I left feeling confused and disappointed. I was genuinely excited to adopt two kittens from the same litter and had already completed the application process. I hope future adopters are treated with more co
