I can attest to why a third party investigation is currently being conducted on this place. They are not transparent and all signs point to not following proper medical evaluation and euthanasia protocols. Strays are supposed to be held for 72 hours before being considered for euthanasia. I brought a stray dog in at the beginning of this year who was immediately euthanized. If they had been transparent with me that they DO NOT HAVE A VET, and cannot provide medical care to animals beyond euthanasia, I would not have dropped her off there. If you find a stray and want it to live, do not bring it here.

My family has been fostering through a.c.a.r. since summer. Anthony has been great to work with. He has spent hours with our teens teaching them how to care for kittens to get volunteer hours for Bright Futures. We love that you get matched with animals that are the best fit for you. Highly recommend this shelter if you need hours for volunteering

I adopted a cat a week ago from this shelter. The staff was super kind and helped me pick out my cat. My cat Moses unfortunately came home with fleas and soon after (the next day) developed an upper respiratory infection. The shelter does treat the cats for fleas and heart worm but they do not check any blood work or ensure there are no underlying health conditions of the animals. After taking my cat to the vet and doing blood work we found out that he was in end stage renal failure. Because his disease was so severe, he was unable to fight off the URI without help. We hospitalized him for three days before the vet said he did not have good quality of life and we made the hard decision of putting him down. I called the shelter three times to inform them of what was going on, as you can ima

I received some pretty rude service. When I asked for paperwork to take home from what was being verbally explained, the lady insisted that I just "check the website". A coworker had to put a packet of the referenced documents in her hand for her to hand me what I asked for.

We are fostering with ACAR and cannot say enough great things about what they do for our local dogs
