South Hill Veterinary Hospital

I have been using this veterinarian clinic since 2016. Spazzy was my first cat. I had him for 16 years. When I moved to Pierce County in 2016. I took Spazzy here. They treated him like their own, until he passed back in March. I recently got a new kitten. His name is Axel. I took Axel here and had him nurtured here. Once again, they treated him like he was their kitten. Yesterday we had a terrible accident. Axel got in the washer. He hid under the sheets I had in the washer. I did not realize he was in there. I started the washer. Thankfully I got him out of the washer, before the spin cycle started. I called SH Veterinary and they were able to get Axel in for an emergency appointment. Thankfully he ended up being okay. The girls and Dr. Johnson were incredible. They showed compassion

Yesterday, I brought my dachshund in to see if she had a bladder infection, and it turns out she did. I’ve been to this clinic a few times and always had good experiences, but Dana, the vet we saw, went above and beyond. She took the time to explain everything clearly and gave me great advice on how to help prevent it from happening again. My bill was also very reasonable, which I really appreciated. I’ll definitely be requesting Dana in the future — thank you for making our visit such a great experience!

Normally, I would’ve given SHV at least 4 stars because they’ve been pretty good with my animals. The review today is because of what’s been happening the last two days. I have called no less than 30 times the last two days because the doc told to do so before starting a second bottle of meds. I don’t leave messages because historically, they either aren’t returned or aren’t returned in a timely manner. Since this is a pressing matter, I wasn’t going to bother with a message. I’ve called from my work phone, cell phone, home phone and my kids phone! What in the world would prevent an open business from answering their phone when ONCE?! If you're looking for a veterinary office in Pierce County, I strongly recommend avoiding South Hill Animal Hospital. Based on my recent experience, I found their professionalism and communication to be seriously lacking, and I am deeply concerned about the level of care provided to my dogs. I typically don’t post reviews like this, but after my recent experience, I can’t help but wonder how many other clients have been mistreated or misinformed. My family and I have been clients of South Hill Vet since the 1980’s. Yesterday they helped my 17 year old little girl pass over the Rainbow Bridge where she now can play with all her brothers and sisters who fave been waiting for her. As I had lived in TX from 2010 to 2024, I had no reason to use SHV, but they are my son’s vet and he said their service had not changed over the years. He was absolutely right. I was treated with compassion and understanding from the front desk to the technicians and vet. They explained all my options to ensure I made the best decision for my Molly. They did not push a lot of expensive procedures and listened to what my wishes were.
