I have adopted dogs twice from Second City and have been more than happy both times. They have the ability to match the perfect dog to the perfect family. They do not discriminate on age of the applicant, and treat each applicant fairly. If you are not the perfect fit for the dog they will show you dogs they think will fit into your family. Their dogs are all vetted and are up to date on their vaccines and have been Heartworm tested. If you adopt a Heartworm positive dog, they pay for the treatment until they are Heartworm free. They treat their dogs with love and respect and have their best interests at heart. If you want a dog for your family I cannot recommend a better place to go. Jan H - Chicago, Illinois

We adopted our little guy about a month and a half ago from Second City and had a great experience. Our new pup is a ball of joy who loves people and playing with everyone. They're very thorough with their process and making sure the dogs are going to good homes. All the volunteers we worked with were incredibly pleasant and nice to talk with when learning about the pups. I highly recommend this rescue if you're looking to expand your family!

I hate to leave a negative review about a place that I believe is trying to do a good thing and give these dogs a good home. But their response, or lack thereof has made me feel like I have no choice. I had been in contact with SCCR regarding the potential adoption of a puppy since Tuesday of last week. After discussions with the staff we were informed that the dog would be present at their event at PetSmart on Saturday from 10-12, and that there's no guarantee the dog will still be available by the time we arrive, but they had already stopped accepting applications. Sure, no worries. We arrived at the event and found it highly disorganized. Once we were checked in and directed to the dog, we were greeted by the adoption counselor who informed us that he was already being adopted by anoth

Went to an adoption event to see a dog with my wife who is in a wheelchair. We started the application process and 5 minutes later a college student with her father started it with the same dog. We were denied because we have a dog at home and they expected us to bring the dog since they wanted to get the dog out of there today... If you have a dog don't bother with this place or their adoption events. I feel they don't respect people with disabilities either since they expect you to travel with your dog to a random adoption event just in case there's a dog who you click with. They showed no patience or care. The foster carer even preferred us since my wife would be home all day with the dog and the student wouldn't. EDIT: The director called and apologized to my wife. They admitted their

The motto of rescuing responsibly is spot on. The puppies live at the center where they are showered with love and all the things puppies need to grow big and strong. The older, not puppies, live in an amazing foster home's and show up at PetSmart on Saturdays in hopes of meeting their forever families.
