We just adopted the sweetest pit mix (who is currently snoring, asleep on my computer case as I type this) at Robertson County Animal Control's shelter. The staff was lovely and took a lot of time with us to find the right dog to add to our home who would get along with our other two dogs. Before I drove out there I saw some of the Google reviews that complained of the smell etc, and yes, the kennel does not smell good. But the dogs were being well cared for, the staff clearly cared about the animals, and seemed to do a great job despite limited resources. I would absolutely adopt from them again in the future. I hope you will consider checking them out as they need great homes for the pets they are working hard to help.
I tried to help out a stray dog that wondered into my yard he comes and goes and hadn’t seen him for a couple days and when he popped back up he was terribly sick so I called a vet to try to get him help and I couldn’t afford the help he needed I was referred to robertson county animal control said they would be able to help and find his owner. I had offered to adopt him once he got the help he needed cause I built a bond with him by just showing up. They looked up a face book I haven’t had access to in years and accused him of being my dog off a picture of my black pit in 2015 that had passed away at the age 13 a couple years ago all because the face looked similar. Also cause I showed emotion to a dog I bonded with over time to get him not so scared. It’s wrong to accuse someone off the
I went here to adopt a dog. And when I got there, it was filthy and smelled bad. The kennels are small, with no real room to move around. We adopted our baby and brought her home. When we gave her a bath, we found she had fleas and ticks. We got them all off of her. I don't think our girl ever had a bath. We took her to our vet immediately to make sure. And they got her breed wrong. I feel bad for those poor babies, because some of them have been there a whole month in that condition. And the staff were ok. They were cordial but not friendly. If you adopt from there, please be aware that they'll have ticks, and bring them to your vet asap after adoption".
Adopted my new dog from here recently, and from answering my calls and e-mails to the actual adoption process, it was smooth sailing from people who seem to actually care about these animals. It was fast and easy. Even though they’re a government shelter, they are technically no-kill and try hard to do right by these dogs and cats & find them homes. They gave me a massive gift basket with very helpful supplies for my new dog when I took her home, too.
The lady on the phone seemed nice. We had an appointment set to drive a long distance to look at an animal for adoption. When we arrived another family was in the front area and had the animal we wanted to see and was adopting it. Knowing we were coming so far with a specific interest in an animal and with us immediately going that way, I would have wished the people would have kept our appt. That seems like common courtesy. When we went in to look at other dogs, many of the signs identifying the dogs were the wrong photos/breeds. We left pretty disappointed.
