Maury County Animal Shelter

I was interested in adopting a dog & I prefer shelters & not breeders. I toured the facility on Mapleash & was impressed by its cleanliness! We’ve used some pretty expensive privately owned kennels to board our dogs & this was cleaner than most of those! I returned to the kennel 2 weeks later with my dog so I could introduce her to potential new roommates. I initially picked out 3 dogs to meet and greet but unfortunately the 1st two weren’t a good match. The 3rd one seemed to be a little too much work. She wasn’t interactive & was clearly a sad dog. I wasn’t hoping for a dog that was going to need rebuilding. The M&G went great. My dog (Abby) & Blanca (the sad dog) got along great. Within minutes they were playing. They played almost an hour so I decided to adopt Blanca!! Less than 3 days

Two kittens fixed at no charge because they were dropped off. I didn’t want them roaming around and creating a never ending cycle. We now have them in a nice little catio outside that they are enjoying.

We had a cat show up to our house that we cared for outside. He was sweet and when the temperatures started to drop we knew we needed to get him a permanent situation. We kept him in during the cold snap and took him to MCAS so he could be adopted. The staff was lovely! The animals were all calm and there were volunteers out walking dogs on the property. Everyone seemed so happy and they really make time for the adoption processes to make sure it's a great fit. Love the work they do. I know most of the reviews here are negative about the staff/volunteers or the help received. I just have to say we had the best experience when we visited the shelter. We went in and were greeted right away, multiple people spoke with us and directed us where to go. Andrea, in particular, was the one who helped us with our adoption and she was so kind and helpful. I'm not sure if the staff was recently changed completely but everyone there was kind and respectful to us. I hope it continues this way and more people have the same experience we had adopting our sweet babies. We read the reviews prior to going and we were pleasantly surprised at the care we received. I know there were issues in the past but give them another chance; it was well worth it for us.

I found a small dog running across hwy 31 while getting gas at Speedway in north Columbia. I drove around with the little fella but couldn’t find his owner so I took him to the Maury County Animal Shelter. My wife met me there and they took him in. Soon my wife began volunteering at the shelter. Eventually I tagged along. I had no idea the shelter was a “non kill” facility with on site veterinary services. I also didn’t realize the sheer numbers of dogs and cats (and goats!) that are rescued at our shelter! Volunteers drive as far as from Franklin and Nashville to walk dogs for hours rain or shine, hot or cold. Expert handlers (Mike!) rehabilitate animals that have been subjected to cruelty/neglect. Dogs are introduced to play groups and slowly prepared for adoption. Immunizations, microch
