Jessamine County Animal Care & Control

I have a long history with this shelter, including adopting my cat Trudy here years ago. Recently, we fell in love with Bonnie and Clyde, a beautiful bonded pair. We even chose to sponsor their adoption fees to help them find a forever home together—please do not separate them! The staff and Director were wonderful, even providing us with toys and leashes for a trial period. However, I am giving 4 stars because I believe their cat testing process needs to be more in-depth. The current quick assessment didn't fully prepare us for the dogs' high prey drive at home. While they are the 'bestest' dogs—protective, cuddly, and nearly house-trained—it unfortunately became unsafe for our resident cats. Best place to adopt love. When I adopted Mac, I could tell he was well taken care of and adored by the staff. They also gave me a huge bag of his Acana food to get me started. Wonderful staff who truly care about animals.

We got our 4th wonderful dog from there last Saturday. She got her healthy checkup Friday at AHON. Thank you for all you do.

Asked Jessamine county animal shelter for help to secure this dog for its safety and others, the dog has been outside for hours and we called and asked for help and where the dog is located on the front porch on its property, they told us they can’t go and grab the dog but the dog runs up and down the street and in the road all day and I’m just concerned about the dog being in the road and getting hit by a vehicle, when on the phone they were very rude. Very disappointed.

What a beautiful, clean, serene place. It absolutely thrills me that my county has such an amazing dog-park. There are two fenced-in areas: one smaller area, one much larger. The grounds are clean, and it is backed up to the Animal Shelter. I enjoy bringing my puppy here & visiting the dogs of the shelter through the fence at the same time. Bags are provided to pick up your pet's waste, but bring your own water/food! Dogs must be vaccinated & cannot have a sharp/mental collar on. Such a beautiful place to let my baby burn some energy!
