Humane Society of Montgomery County

I've been coming to this humane society since 2020. The staff are extremely nice and care deeply about the animals they take care of. I've come here countless times to volunteer and I'm hoping to adopt my first cat from here soon. If you're a student at Virginia Tech or Radford and want a way to destress during stressful times of the school year, I highly recommend calling and asking to volunteer. If you're looking to adopt a cat, I can't imagine a better place to choose (note that they do not do same day adoptions, but you can find their application on their website). They are also always happy to accept donations, and a wish list can be found on their website as well.

Wonderful place to go! The employees are always friendly and eager to help whether it’s at the shelter or in the community. 💗 If you are interested in adopting look over their website or call before stopping by, do your homework. They run a tight ship and have policies and procedures in place to ensure a safe and happy outcome for all their animals. Much respect to these folks!

My dog doesn’t usually like strangers but he got along with everyone there. The younger veterinarian was incredible. He was patient and rather knowledgeable.

I visited this location and they wanted a full background application so we could merely interact with the animals to see if one was suitable for our youngest child.... When we pointed our how obtuse this was, the help caught a better than thou attitude and said we should go elsewhere to look... Poor attitude... They are not upholding their vow to donors to help rehome animals. They appear to be doing their best to make locating their center difficult with NO street signage, NO online directions and NO visibility from the road... Staffing this center with poor attitudes.... Their non profit status should be investigated because it is not appearing to be a center designed to do what it was created to do. I would avoid this center.

This is a no kill shelter and they go to great lengths to care for their furry friends. Great place to volunteer, but call ahead.
