Mrs. Peggy was so sweet. We arrived at her home and she gave us a little backstory about her, her husband and the alpacas. We each got a handful of pellets to feed the alpacas and she let us walk through the gate to where nine of her friendliest alpacas stay. The alpacas were so gentle taking food from us. They don’t have top teeth! I learned that during my visit. There was one named Jasper who loves to be petted and sometimes lays down so you can rub his belly 🤣 There is no cost to come and see the alpacas. Mrs. Peggy runs off of donations and selling items in her gift shop made from alpaca fur. She also told us that she has a couple local guys who volunteer to help her with farm tasks since her and her husband are “no spring chickens”. We visited in June 2025 and right now she does tours
Visiting Funny Farm Alpacas was both heartwarming and inspiring. This isn’t just a farm—it’s a labor of love run by a dedicated couple making a real difference in the lives of aging and special needs alpacas. It's a great place to bring the family, learn about alpacas, and support a mission rooted in compassion. Wear appropriate shoes and be sure to donate or check out their gift shop! I purchased soft ankle socks and a soft alpaca replica made from their fleece.
Wonderful experience, this is a rescue place run for a couple, Debbie told us their story and gave us treat to feed the alpacas, it’s free but they accept donations and they have a store with product made of the fur of the alpacas. All the donations will go to the care of the animals. I bought a hat and a wonderful scarf.
This is an alpaca rescue run by a nice lady and her disabled husband. You can go in and see the alpaca and feed them the treats she'll give you. Some of the alpaca will allow you to pet them but like cats some may just say no and move away. There is a gift shop with lots of alpaca items (toys, yarn, clothing, etc) where proceeds go directly to feeding and caring for the alpaca.
Wanted to do an activity with the family including toddler and we found a new favorite place in Hernando. The lady owner met us at the front of the store right after parking and explained the background story of how her and her husband’s passion and work with alpacas. Very friendly and kind. Gave us handful of treats for alpacas told us to stay and take pictures as long as we wanted. Felt very welcomed and appreciated them for all their hard work and effort they put to let the public see their animals including rescues. Went to the store to buy a hand made fur hat and fur toy from the shop. Store had many goods and great for gifts. Overall experience was wonderful, 100% would recommend and will be coming back. Donation are also possible and whole experience was free. Kid friendly. Parking
