West Valley Animal Shelter

Adopted a cat on LA Charger's Petpalooza event. Sal was feral with a clipped ear, bit the handler when grabbed. I had to acknowledge behavior problems and accept responsibility. Fast-track to today; after a lengthy adjustment period, Sal is a wonderful cat. I sought him in particular because he's the best looking cat in the system. He's still very independent but one of the best, most mature animals Ive ever had. He's a keeper!

We recently adopted 2 puppies from this shelter. The experience was fantastic. All of the staff from the front office, volunteers, and staff were extremely helpful. We were there 5x checking on the new pups prior to bringing home, they are doing well and love their new home

I found a little bird with a broken leg in my backyard this morning that was very much alive. I didn't know what to do or where to take it. I called my vet and they told me to take it to this shelter as I live in Porter Ranch and vets usually don't treat wild animals. I called ahead and verified I could bring the bird for treatment. Just to let everyone know if you come across injured wildlife that you can safely handle on your own you can take it to a shelter for treatment for FREE! They took the bird in right away but unfortunately had to put her down due to the extent of her fractured leg. I had no idea I could bring injured wildlife for treatment here. They were so helpful, caring, and did the best they could for that little bird. Gave her a fighting chance and put her out of her mise

There is one blonde girl that works here who is super aggro and it’s bizarre she’s allowed to be front facing with families hoping to adopt. The whole time we were visiting a dog she spent the entire time yelling at us from the other side of the fence even though she wasn’t the one helping us and was threatening to report us for having 3 dogs who are already registered by the way. We could hear her talking to staff “they have three dogs?? Because I’ll report them.” Very odd experience. I feel worse for the dogs because with her attitude this way I’m sure she’s dissuaded many from adopting. Definitely hope everyone adopts a dog from here, but hopefully they keep her away from other people in the future.

Front desk, older lady was rude. BUT I did find a friend that day, I adopted a guinea pig and he’s perfect. I’ve had him for about 2 months perfect addition to our family. The adoption it self was very easy going and fast. The man who checked us out was very helpful and knowledgeable. I payed 15$ and I got a box carrier.
