My cat experienced cluster seizures for the first time after previously being completely healthy (She’s only 7), and the team here was absolutely incredible in the care they provided. Two days before coming in, I noticed her first seizure and took her to our regular veterinarian, where she was diagnosed with epilepsy after her blood work came back normal. Unfortunately, the prescribed medication wouldn’t arrive for another three to five days. As her seizures became progressively worse, I knew I couldn’t wait that long, so I called ahead and brought her to VVSE, and I am so grateful that I did. From the moment we arrived, she was taken back immediately due to the triage-based system, which was incredibly reassuring during such a stressful time. The staff began treatment right away and star

My kitten broke his hip, he needed surgery and this was the only place that I could find that could do the complex procedure, I called two hours surrounding areas. The surgeon was excellent, explained everything he thought needed to be done, told me it was a long painful recovery and was kind, saying it wasn't awful if I didn't get it done (probably could tell I wasn't rich) I couldn't leave him broken so the surgery was scheduled immediately. They kept me informed the entire time. They did such a good job, I am so grateful. The reason I didn't give it 5 stars was because they accidentally shaved the wrong leg and another reason is it was incredibly expensive. Probably not higher than another place but to me it was expensive. I took out two credit cards and my savings. If you have an emerg

I have nothing but wonderful things to say about VVSE!! The care my dog, Ziggy received before, during, and after his right TPLO surgery was thorough and professional. Dr. Schillinger spent an hour with me during our consultation, drawing different diagrams of a canine knee, explaining the injury, and how it would be surgically repaired. Before leaving, she provided a clear path forward and what to expect in the recovery process. The entire VVS team was incredibly kind and patient with my requests for updates, as my dog had to stay overnight following his surgery. They sent us home with a folder of detailed instructions and a week-by-week recovery checklist, as well as links to Youtube videos on how to complete at-home rehab exercises. We also opted to have our dog do post-surgical rehab

This place is great! I had gone to the "hospital" in Staunton (Verona) and they were not able to view Xrays or the ultrasound. They sent me to this place thinking my dog had a baseball sized growth in him and he needed surgery. Don't waste your money and come to Charlottesville no matter how much more convenient Staunton is. Trust me. My Dog is doing so much better!

I’d like to take a moment to thank Virginia Veterinary Specialty &Emergency Hospital for the compassion and dignity they showed during one of the hardest moments of my life. From the front desk, Victoria calmly took my information and checked in my fur child, Nellie, which immediately brought a sense of steadiness in an overwhelming moment. Dr. Connors thoroughly evaluated Nellie—taking her vitals, running blood work, and performing scans—and then bravely and gently walked me through the results. She stayed with me as I faced the gut-wrenching decision to end my cat’s suffering, and I will always be grateful for that kindness. Victoria also carefully explained the cremation options and showed genuine empathy and care throughout the process. Every step felt dignified, respectful, and heartf
