He developed a very aggressive tumor on his back left hip, and we were facing multi-week waits just to get a surgical consultation. We called vets in the larger cities and surrounding areas with no luck getting him seen sooner. In just two weeks, the tumor had doubled in size. The thought of waiting several more weeks was terrifying. We were genuinely afraid it could rupture. The stress and helplessness we felt during that time was tough. Unfortunately, a little more than a week ago, we had to make the decision to put our beloved dog to sleep, being that this was a Saturday morning, we could not take him to our regular vet, but from the second I arrived at Vet Cross, they could not have been more kind and compassionate. They went as far as to cook him bacon amongst other goodies for his last meal before it had to happen. Both Cass and Dr Lewis Could not have been more comforting during the whole process. Having to say goodbye to my Sweet Stitch was one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever had to make, and I will forever be grateful for the compassion and kindness shown by this everyone I met today. From the moment we arrived, they treated us with such empathy, patience, and respect. Nothing felt rushed, and they took the time to explain everything while making sure Stitch was comfortable and surrounded by love. They gave me space to cuddle Stitch, feed her bacon, cookies, and chocolates, and read her a book while feeding her treats. They spoke to Stitch with such tenderness, and supported me through an incredibly painful moment with genuine care. If you live in Wilmington and any of the surrounding areas and ever have a Pet Emergency, please do yourself, your pet and your pocketbook a favor and make the drive to Hampstead to Vet Cross! Bella had an obstruction and Dr. Lewis and the amazing staff were able to do same day surgery to remove the part of the Kong toy Bella had swallowed. (Yes, we thought Kong toys were indestructible also - they are NOT). She had been struggling for about 2 weeks with major vomiting, then the other (diarrhea). We were ultimately told she needed surgery to remove the obstruction. The Emergency Vet in Wilmington (you know which one I am talking about) could not do same day and they quoted me "between" $5-7K. During a very stressful and emotional time for our family, Dr. Sara Lewis and her entire team at Vet Cross provided exceptional care, compassion, and kindness. They treated our sweet Tooties with such gentleness and respect, and just as importantly, they comforted us every step of the way.
