The Town of North Hempstead Animal Shelter

First of all the staff was incredible!!! That loving and caring and respectful and are really concerned about the animals finding a good and forever home! His name is originally Homer, who we're now trying to rename him Honey Boy. We got him for my mother who's 87 years old and really needed a very companion and she chose him. Is 8 years old, he's blind, and just a bundle of love.They did a full vet thing with him and dewormed him a couple of times Plus they chipped him and provided so many other services for him. And they have very very reasonable adoption fees.He seems to be real happy and his new home and we're really happy with him I want to personally thank North Hempstead animal control keep up the good work!!!!

If an animal bites someone even once, it’s euthanized. All the euthanasias are performed by Dr. Eziel from Port Washington Animal Hospital. He does the job cheaply and without any remorse. I can’t understand why anyone would surrender their dog to this place. Still, I would consider adopting from them—because by doing so, you’d truly be rescuing that dog. Be careful, though. The volunteers there can be very unpleasant. Rude Jenna came to the phone, she was worse then the staff. She was degrading. Horrible place for dogs!

Top notch animal shelter! We adopted a fine dog there. Well run, great staff and a very clean facility. We appreciate all they did for us and our new pup!!

While they don't let you see all the animals in person, they have a book and a table at the entrance where you can sit down and read about each pet that they have and then arrange to personally see one. Most of the animals here are strays that animal control collects. The price to adopt one is very cheap I think it's $57. I would check periodically if they don't have any dogs you want on that day.

I adopted my dog , Foxy, from the North Hempstead Animal Shelter last August. I was still missing my previous dog but determined to have another. Foxy is that dog and has become my daily companion. She is affectionate, playful, and smart. Her gentle personality is so endearing and she is more than willing to engage in any activity that suits me. I might add that she can romp and play with my thirteen grandchildren and a safe, great time is had by all. The Covid-19 quarantine would have been unbearable without her company and our daily walks. The staff at North Hempstead Animal Shelter were excellent! They talked to me at length to determine what type of dog would be a fit for me and Foxy was their first choice. (And mine!)
