Oyster Bay Animal Shelter

We adopted a cat from them today and it was such an amazing experience. Everyone working there was wonderful. I had been following them for a while on Facebook wondering why all their cats seemed to be so friendly. Then when I went to visit I got my answer, they take care of those animals like they’re their own pets and it shows. They allowed us to stay with the cats for as long as we needed, they knew their personality and helped us find the one that was best suited for our home. We weren’t sure if we wanted one or two, we ended up adopting only one and they never pushed for us to take a second one. The adoption process was so smooth and enjoyable. Our cat is absolutely wonderful and we’re so happy we have him.

This week, one of my fellow truck drivers was injured. Thank you all at Oyster Bay Animal Shelter for taking care of his baby and road dog, Rowdy until another driver could arrive from Arkansas. You are wonderful people!!!

Staff is so friendly and welcoming. We went in to look at cats and kittens. The staff member who helped us brought us several different cats to meet while we sat in a playroom. After talking to us a while, she matched us with the perfect cat. We can’t wait to bring our sweet girl, Tofu, home!

It pains me greatly to write this. I know that operating a Town/City shelter is no easy task, but my shocking and deeply disturbing experience with this facility needs to be shared. My daughter and I came across a stray Norfolk (?) terrier tied to a signpost in a park, and he had clearly been a victim of neglect. We brought him home, bathed and fed him, and kept him overnight. He was affectionate, happy to be handled, playful, eager to please, and showed zero signs of aggression or resource guarding. We have three large dogs, otherwise we would have kept him. Given his disposition, It broke my heart to bring him to the shelter, but he seemed like the kind of dog that would be adopted quickly, and this particular shelter appeared well run and not crowded.
