Three stars because my family swears by this vet and has used them for as long as I can remember- but for me personally… I didn’t exactly have the best experiences. At first I brought my new kitten in for her to be spayed and to receive her first check up and the vet noticed her gums were red. He completely misled me to believe she may have feline leukemia. I know he was just trying to be transparent- but it took over a week to get the negative results back and that whole week I was so anxious. She ended up being just fine. Then I got another cat and had noticed he had lots of ear wax and discomfort around his ears. Dr. Mathewson has been treating our dog and our cats for two years now. He’s preformed inguinal neutering, tooth extractions and wound care for our pets. He is an older gentleman and very “old school” but still sharp as a tack! If you like Dr. Benny Moore in Salem, you’ll LOVE Dr. Mathewson! He has the same no-nonsense approach to care. He requires an appointment so that means he does not provide emergency care services. But that also means he doesn’t have to buy specialty equipment and that’s how he keeps his prices so reasonable! If you just need a good ol’ country vet; he’s your guy!

had a deeply disappointing experience at Dr. Mathewson's office with my daughter and her sick puppy. We arrived before opening hours due to a medical emergency, as the puppy was showing alarming symptoms (fever, lethargy, refusing food/water). Despite the urgency, the gentleman at the front desk was rude and dismissive, upset that we didn’t have an appointment, even though we tried calling multiple times with no answer or option to leave a message.Dr. Jeffery Mathewson was equally unprofessional, prioritizing his frustration about our unscheduled visit over the puppy’s critical condition. I love this vet because he is easy to talk to and is gentle with my kitty. My cat really likes him and he doesn't like hardly anyone.
