La Porte County Animal Control & The Jane Bernard Animal Adoption Center

We are looking for a new fur baby, so we stopped to see the puppies. Staff was super friendly and helpful as well as knowledgeable about the pup's personalities. The pups were clean and seemed well cared for. We were able to go straight back and see them outside as well as see their living spaces. Adoption fees are VERY reasonable. I wish I could take them all home!

I recently adopted Nora, a sweet tabby, from The Jane Bernard Animal Adoption Center. She has adjusted so quickly to our home and her 2 new dog siblings. She found her litter box quickly and has had no accidents at all. I can’t thank the staff enough for their kindness and the seamless adoption process. We adore our new furbaby and have renamed her Phoebe! :)

Rescued a dog in Blue Chip parking lot that ended up going to Michigan City AC.Few months later she was pulled and brought here. Feeling bad I couldn’t keep her I had been sending her treats/toys/nylabones at the Michigan City AC. Once she was transferred I left numerous messages about her as I would have liked to continue this. Never recieved a call back. Via Facebook messaging was told there were lots of dogs with that name and to call.I sent a picture of said dog and called yesterday.Individual was clueless.No dogs here by that name. Who are you (asked three times)?I don’t know what to tell you. At this point I flat out asked if she had been euthanized and was told “maybe.” Have worked in animal rescue for years and can’t believe this place.Indifferent,uncaring and no help at all.No

On, Sunday, September 29, 2024 I phoned the emergency line for the La Porte Animal Shelter and reported finding a new born kitten that needed help. I purchased a kitten formula and bottle to feed this kitten. I’m allergic to cats and reported this to operator #2. He said there was a worker coming to meet me at the shelter. I packed up this cat and took them to the shelter to meetup with their worker. No body called or showed up. I had called the emergency number 4 times and every time the guy told me to wait for the worker. In the mean time, a lady showed up with a dog she found. We both waited over an hour and nobody showed up. I called back and operator # 2 said to release the baby newborn kitten and the dog into the streets.
