Fayette County Animal Control/Shelter

This is such a great shelter. We have so many different types of dogs. Very clean and the staff is great. So many volunteers here definitely a great place to stop if you’re looking for a pet.

We loved our experience today. Our son went home happy with the most perfect cat that chose him! I too went home happy with another sweet cat! The staff was wonderful. The manger was amazing. Our experience was top tier. Highly recommend. Please do not let the bad reviews deter you. We surely are glad we went!

Nice new shelter! I love the improvements. I went to drop off some wet food my cats didn't care for and asked if I could hold some of the kittens that were in the lobby. The staff was super friendly and took me to the kitty romp room where I got to pet, play and hold lots of sweethearts! The cats have an area where they can roam about and go inside and outside, lots of climbing and scratching posts, places to perch high up. Well done to all who make their time there more comfortable.

Went to this shelter because I didn't know how to surrender a dog since it was the first time I ever had. I didn't realize they had county based shelters and that I wasn't part of that county. I was trying to surrender a great pyrenees that I've had for 8 years because he is a larger dog and I have two others with special needs including one missing a leg and a new baby. He was being rowdy and wasn't getting enough attention and with his size became a hazard to the other dogs and my newborn. When I tried to explain this to the lady I was met with arrogance and told by her " I have 4 dogs and 2 kids so it just sounds like you just can't manage and that's on you. " I've never surrendered a dog in my life and I had been in tears the past week trying to find someone to take him because

Staff here have huge hearts and difficult jobs. They are truly amazing, caring for animals that majority of humanity has abandoned. They also follow the rules of the county and the processes of the shelter. They have to for SO many reasons, and most of the reviews on here are negative because an exception wasn’t made to break a rule. It’s emotional on both sides. For example, you are trying to help a stray, and the shelter has to turn you away. When they explain it’s because you’re out of jurisdiction or try to discuss options to see if you could keep the stray, they’re accused of being rude. It’s a difficult message to deliver and it’s a disappointing message to receive. Shelter staff are doing everything possible in the best interest of these animals, doing a critical job that mo
