Huge shoutout to Fairfax County Animal Services! We just adopted our first kittens, Song and Tree Sparrow, and the experience was 10/10. The volunteers were so helpful with all our 'newbie' questions and helped us feel ready to bring home a duo. The kittens are doing great and we couldn't be happier. We are so incredibly in love with them already and it's just been two days. Highly recommend this shelter!

I was involved in a weather related car accident in May that left me incapable of caring for our animals and unfortunately a small fire broke out, which left the animals in desperate need of care. My boyfriend at the time took my eldest child to the house to collect the animals with Fairfax Animal Protection. When I was released from the hospital, I went to retrieve our animals and I was told they only took 3 of our 4 cats (one liked to be outside more as they were previously a stray). We never could locate our 4th cat, and t was brought to my attention nearly 8 months later that they did in fact collect all 4 cats. I adopted my sweet little fur baby last week and the shelter made the experience really easy. I have never owned a pet before, so the shelter really took my needs and the kitty’s needs into consideration before recommending me KC. The process was simple, but they were very thorough with explaining the kitty’s health, background, and care. They also provided me with supplies such as a towel, a toy, some kibble, and even litter when I requested due to KC’s recent spay surgery. Everyone there loves their animals and are very honest about their animals so you know exactly what you’re getting into before you take them home. I had an amazing and welcoming experience overall!

Fairfax County Animal Shelter – behavior observation and adoption process concern I visited the Fairfax County shelter hoping to adopt a young cat listed as ready for adoption. Upon arrival, I was told she was classified as a “working cat” and was not available for viewing because I don’t have a barn. Later, I was informed that her posted age of 3 months was an error and that she was around six months old. However, at six months a cat’s behavioral plasticity remains high, and such a label should not be final without direct observation. A visitor should at least be allowed to see the animal’s body language before a decision is made.
