Don's Tropical Pets & Plants

If you’re into aquariums and live in San Antonio, this is the spot. I’m about a month into owning a planted tropical tank and have visited just about every aquarium shop in the area. Don’s Tropical Pets & Plants is hands down my favorite. They have an incredible selection of healthy fish and plants, and their facility is by far the cleanest I’ve seen. What really sets them apart, though, is the staff. Anne and Abby were unbelievably helpful while I asked a million questions. They were patient, knowledgeable, and genuinely care about the well-being of the animals. You can tell this isn’t just a job to them. If you’re looking for the best aquarium shop in San Antonio, I highly recommend Don’s Tropical Pets & Plants.

I rarely write reviews but I had to rave about this place because it's great! They have a great fish selection, along with shrimp, snails and large selection aquatic plants. They have reptiles, and everything you need to set up a terrarium, even tropical plants. Everything is reasonably priced and the location is convenient, but the reason I keep returning is because of the friendly and knowledgeable staff. My daughter had been wanting a snake for years, and they helped us set up all aspects of the terrarium. Everyone from the owner Don, along with Abby and Ann, were all very informative, and patiently answered our MANY questions which spanned several visits. I have returned a few times to get some fish and plants, and everything purchased is thriving. Great place!

I drive all the way up from the Rio Grande Valley just to visit this store. They carry high-quality fish and plants that I can't find anywhere else in my area. One of the main reasons I choose this store over all the others in San Antonio is because Don, the owner, is genuinely one of the kindest people I’ve ever met. He and his staff are extremely knowledgeable about tropical pets and plants, and they always take the time to address my questions and interests. You can tell they truly want their clients to succeed. Whether you're a seasoned tropical pet owner or just getting started, this store is an absolute must-visit.

Absolutely amazing place! Don’s Tropical Pets and Plants is a hidden gem for any fish or reptile enthusiast. Don is incredibly knowledgeable and passionate—he truly knows everything there is to know about fish, reptiles, and everything in between. Whether you’re a seasoned hobbyist or just starting out, this store has everything you need. The staff are super friendly and always go above and beyond to help. The service is top-notch, and the store is clean, well-organized, and full of healthy animals and plants. I always leave with exactly what I need and great advice to go with it. Highly recommend stopping by—this place is a must-visit!

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!!! This is the best shop we’ve found in and around San Antonio. Recently got into bioactive terrariums and it was amazing to walk in and see so many live plants. Nice variety, great quality, and even better customer service. Can’t wait to go back soon!!!! 💝
