Chesapeake Humane Society Adoption Center

We met miss Velvet through Pet Supplies Plus as they had her in they're little pet room hosted by the Chesapeake Humane Society. I recently lost my beloved boy 6 months ago and wasn't sure when I would be ready for another furry companion. When we met Velvet, I instantly knew she was the one. She has so many similarities to my boy it's unbelievable. She's been here less than 2 weeks, and has settled in well. I have no doubt that we were meant to be her forever home.

If you are going through anything and want to rehome your dog and seek temporary shelter good luck. As soon as I met Nicole and she started playing with my dog I instantly knew she was going to deny temporary housing for her due to displacement because of an house fire. But because she a bully breed she was judged even when I looked at Nicole out the door outside with my dog she looked a bit stand off-ish . Her response for not accepting the dog was because she didn’t interact with the other dog far as playing she just walked away. So my baby don’t show signs of aggression she don’t show signs of anything but denied . I’m not going to say I was denied because of my skin but I feel a bunch of different ways. Certain staff knew very little about dogs. I have a dog who is very good with other animals and children and when they did a meet and greet she didn't think they were compatible because of my dog. She doesn't know my dog, and how loving she is towards other animals and people. But for the 5 Seconds she allowed them to spend time with each other she didn't like what she saw. My dog basically ignored the other dog and I recommend that they spend more time together and she said she doesn't have the time.

My daughter adopted this sweet boy from here. The staff is super friendly and supportive. The shelter is super clean, and you can tell all their pets are well taken care of. I will go here again and highly recommend this place.

I loved my experience with Chesapeake Humane Society! I came in not really knowing who I’d meet, hoping for a special kitty, and there was Juno! (Formerly Prom Queen). The staff here are amazing and super easy to talk to, and really work with you to help you find your new furry family member. We love our sweet Junebug and we are so grateful to the staff here! Juno has really come into her own and let her meanie guard down, and now loves to give me, her dad, and doggy sister kisses. She was so ready to love. Thank you for everything Chesapeake Humane Society!! Our family is now complete.
