Learned alot about raptors. All the birds were visible in the pens. The birds were healthy and not afraid to show off their skills. The staff will answer your questions. We got to see the birds being fed. Cool experience. Go check it out and donate if you can.
The Raptor Center is so cool! There are permanent resident raptors and raptors rehabilitating and a small museum to learn More about skeletons and feathers and even owl pellets to disect! If you are lucky wou can be there for feeding time to see all of the birds interacting with the team of very friendly and knowledgeable staff.
Talk about things you never knew existed. The California raptor center is a great place to see these magnificent birds. The huge bonus... IT'S FREE, it's educational AND DID I SAY ITS FREE. 4/16 return update: the day was so nice the brought out Jack the falcon seen in the last 3 pix and the video at the end.
What an amazing place! The staff were super friendly and took time to answer any questions we had and also give a general overview of the mission of the Raptor center and what their daily activities entail. The owls, vultures, hawks, etc. were really something special. You probably have seen them before, but I think it is something special to see them so incredibly close. It appears all the birds here are in one way or another unfit for the wild, such as birth defects in wing structures, blindness, or improper training from birth which they allegedly cannot recover. As such, it is a pretty feel-good experience to come and visit, and know the birds would otherwise die in the wild.
most of the place is outside, but there's a small museum building further in where you can look at taxidermy, posters, small exhibits, owl pellets, and even buy merch. each enclosure has information on the species of bird and the specific birds themselves. I enjoyed reading their stories. the whole experience is an independent thing, there's no guide or instruction other than signs. overall it was cool to see :)
