I found a dog that wasn’t chipped last Saturday and the lady at the animal clinic suggested I speak to Elizabeth at ARF. She was very friendly and told me to bring the dog by on Sunday. When I arrived, I was greeted by a group of very friendly ladies who gave the dog, who I named Moonah, three vaccines free of charge. After lots of posts to see if we could find the owner, I’ve decided to take the dog. I noticed that they had a truck for water out front, which shocked me to know that they are running a no kill rescue shelter with 300 dogs and 150 cats with no water. I really hope the city of Jackson can provide their constituents their right to fresh water. We adopted a Dane pointer mix. All animals seem healthy.

A truly top tier organization. You cannot walk in here with an ego and demand an animal thinking you’re doing the shelter a favor - they have HIGH standards because they know their animals more than you do. They know adopters more than adopters know themselves. Go in here with a servant’s heart or do not go. My Merry girl came from here, too. She was the best and goofiest girl in the whole world and I will miss her and love her until the day I die.

I adopted from Arf, and we are blessed with a wonderful new family member since. Reading some of the comments really hurts me. I this, and they that. Visiting Arf once, having no clue about the challenges a no-kill-shelter is facing on a daily base but judging everything possible is so very sad. I did not see any help offered to better the challenges. This is not Target, go pick your item, go to cash register and pay. The people working there take in animals that have been disposed by their owners they loved. Nobody wants them - anymore. Inconvenient, things changes, right. The shelter is confronted daily with the shortcoming of pet owners, who want to make the rules but not participate in the work. Be a bit easy and go for a few weeks and volunteer.
