Ukiah Animal Shelter

I visited the shelter this weekend, and it was such a delightful experience. The staff and volunteers were incredibly helpful and patient as my partner and i took different dogs for a walks. Then, later, when we found one dog we really liked, we went to the play area and thew the ball around for a while. And before we left, we played with two new sister pups who were simply adorable. Excited to return to the shelter again soon!

I was driving through town and found a dog on the freeway, figured I’d try to be the good person and get it at least brought to a shelter. I was told that they have no more space available and to just go drop the dog back off on the highway. Called the local nonemergency sheriff line, they said if the shelter can’t take it to just drop it back off on the highway. As our last effort I drove to the Humane Society offered them $500 to take the dog and was told it needed to be dropped off at the shelter 1st as that is their policy. Pretty much all that needs to be said about that….. That dog is back on the highway. I hope you folks go to sleep knowing that sweet dog probably didn’t make it through the night as it got down into the 20s. What a great impression of my first time in Ukiah.

These folks do compassionate and vial work for our community. The love they have for the animals they care for is very apparent. We specifically adopted a black cat that had sadly been there for over a year and multiple staff came up to us when we arrived to thank us for adopting him. He is a wonderful addition to our household and it is clear they put time into socializing him.

There are so many great dogs here! The Staff and Volunteers are kind and caring and devoted. I'm grateful I found a sweet dog here to adopt! Thank you so much!
