Texas Avian & Exotic Hospital

I work at a vet hospital in the metroplex and we always refer to Texas Avian and Exotic for our Exotic patients. Today I personally used them on an emergency basis. We had a baby Emu in distress. They were able to set an appointment for a work in the same day when I called initially. Then the baby took a turn for the worst and we rushed in early than expected. The staff immediately triage our Emu and got it on oxygen. The doctor was able to asses her. But shortly there after she passed away. They were very compassionate and kind during this emotional event. They were then able to work us in to get the other baby we had checked out as well to ease our nerves. This is the best vet clinic I have ever patronized. Everyone is so kind and they are really knowledgeable. I drive an hour and a half to get here and it is entirely worth it.

Very expensive service, but this is a rare field they practice and you absolutely get what you pay for. Very accommodating, knowledgeable, and experienced. They don't shame you for not knowing every single thing about the complex care of exotics, and they are happy to educate you and answer questions. They took great care of my Leopard Gecko who was in dire need of help.

This office has been amazing! Poor Dr. Speckles was a beautiful, fluffy silkie who unfortunately got Fowl Pox and lost her head feathers from scaring. The scabs were all over her head and eyelids and the vet helped me save her and taught me how to tube feed until eventually she cleared up. Six months later, she was pecked in the eye by another hen and was in bad shape. I thought she might lose her eye. After a series of treatments, she healed and was back in the coop again with her flock. I returned today, afraid of wry neck and the vet was so knowledgeable and helpful in looking for the cause rather than treating the symptoms. After taking my two cockatiels to this vet for over a year, I found it to be very overpriced and front desk staff to be unwelcoming and unfriendly. Cut to one of my birds passing suddenly in my arms and arriving distraught and crying, the following experience left me angry and disgusted. When I arrived sobbing, my bird was taken back to confirm he had passed. One of the front desk girls approached me and gave me a laminated price sheet to cremate my bird. I simply took it but couldn’t even think about that. Someone came out shortly after to say they were getting a room together to say my goodbyes.
