Sullivan Animal Shelter

I called ahead to inquire about adopting a specific dog (a Shepherd) and was instructed to simply drop by. I arrived later this afternoon shortly before closing, but unfortunately, the experience was appalling. Upon entering, I was met by a larger woman at the front desk who was immediately antagonistic and dismissive. Instead of assisting me, she accused me of lying about my prior phone call and refused to believe I was there for a specific animal. The situation escalated from poor customer service to blatant racial profiling when she insinuated I must be looking for a pitbull, stating, 'That's the kind of dog you people like to get, isn't it?' After having trouble getting appointments and calls returned in other towns, we made the drive to Sullivan to see their cats. Our teen really wanted to find their match (precious cat died of old age, and kiddo was missing their companionship). I called and made an appointment the same day, and we were greeted by a very helpful employee upon arrival. We were taken to the cat room for a low pressure meet-and-greet with all of their cats. We were allowed to open cages and pet each cat, while the employee told us what she knew of each animal. One cat chose us, and we eventually decided to adopt her. We filled out an application (print it from their website to be ready), and we were approved pretty quickly. They scheduled her to be fixed and checked by the vet the following day, and we picked

Please donate! The people here do love animals and they do what they can to ensure animals find a furever home. Spay and nurter your cats animals, and adopt whenever possible.:3

A great shelter that does the best they can with the staff and resources they have. A program as such will never be perfect but this is pretty close. Bless these good people and their mission to help the least of creatures. I would always recommend to adopt and/or donate if you can. And wanna say thanks for helping us find Boo Berry the best cat ever.

Imagine running an animal shelter a place for second chances for animals that are just trying to live. Having no vet on staff and not taking in animals that need help as if the place isn’t called an ANIMAL SHELTER. Horribly rude and unhelpful.
