Springfield Animal Shelter

My mother passed away and her VALUABLE INTACT female great Dane was brought here. I contacted them ND was told I could retrieve her the following week at my earliest convenience. When I made it into Springfield I came straight here and was told THEY KILLED HER!!! THIS DOG WAS PART OF AN ESTATE. NOT A STRAY. THEY KNEW I WAS COMING AND DID NOT CONTACT ME, HAVE ANY ADMINISTRATIVE HEARING OR GIVE ME ANY OPPORTUNITY TO CONTEST THE SITUATION. SUPER MESSED UP. I BELIEVE THEY NEED TO REIMBURSE THE ESTATE FOR THE VALUE OF THIS DOG AND THE PUPPIES SHE WOUKD HAVE PRODUCED.

This place is wild! They are hardly open so if you find a dog during their close hours, you’re just stuck taking care of the dog. I’m not a horrible person, so I’m not gonna leave a sweet stray dog out in this heat. But I also don’t have the funds to care for another dog! I had to spend a big chunk of my own money in the economy we have right now to get the things needed for this dog for just one night. I was supposed to have a call scheduled for 8:00 am and no one called me. I sat on hold for over 30 minutes on two phone calls and left two message and I am being ignored. Do your job and I wouldn’t be upset. Don’t count on the animal shelter to help you.

Why is it called Springfield-Greene County Animal Control when they WILL NOT go outside the city limits to pick-up strays? I have two dogs in my back yard right now that they will not pick up because I am outside the City Limits and the Rescue One folks have yet to return my call. I can't let my own dog out in her own yard, I can't complete my mowing because of where they are and I can't repair the fence in this area because I am not sure how they would react to the noise.

Contacting them is a nightmare. It usually takes days and many calls per day to reach anyone. Their mailbox is always full. But, when working only 3 hrs a day makes it even more difficult to reach them. And, the Humane Society is No help even though they list as a No Kill Shelter. Springfield is Such Trash!!

The courts ordered the shelter to return my dogs over a week ago. And we still haven't got them. Their hour of operation is sutch that they can't be for the animals. We have done everything we were supposed to do. We can't get them to answer the phone. And 90% of the time you can't leave a message. I'm not sure where or when things went so bad. But I do know this crew need to go and a new one put in place.
