Second Chance Animal Shelter

Wonderful experience. Was able to adopt a cute kitten named Sawyer. Staff was kind and went above and beyond to involve our 6yr old daughter in meeting Sawyer. Nice to see a shelter that fosters pets and cares for them. Sawyer had a cold, and they gave us meds for him. Extra care that matters. Best animal shelter in Alpena. They definitely care.

Very responsive to phone calls, clean, caring and helpful. Just love our pups! She is a funny character!

I think they do a great job of trying to help people and help feline in dog and they were very clean because they were still doing cleaning when you were there they weren't waiting to the end of the night they were just on top of it. My only sadness is they didn't have any puppies which is a good thing does that means there's less dogs going without a family or as Rocky says a forever home.

Came in to drop off a deposit for my sister's cat, and was very impressed! Facility is super clean and has a modern upgraded look compared to other shelters I've seen. Staff was courteous and polite, and the shelter has ample parking! I look forward to coming by in the future when I'm ready to look for a new furry child myself 😀

I am heartbroken and deeply disappointed in this rescue. I turned in four young kittens as part of my effort to TNR a feral colony in my area. I believed I was doing the right thing by trusting a no-kill rescue to give these kittens a chance at life. Instead, I was later informed that all four were euthanized due to FPV. While FPV is a serious illness, it is not an automatic death sentence, especially when caught early. It is devastating to know that no effort was made to treat or isolate them. There was no transparency, no discussion of options, and no warning that euthanasia was even being considered. I would never have surrendered them had I known this could happen. I expected compassion and a commitment to saving lives. What I got instead was betrayal and heartbreak. Please think twice
