Oh this is the vet for me. Its family owned and operated. The people have mercy, tender affection for you and your beloved animals thst are family. I have hone through 4 vets here in Santa Maria. I wish I had found this doctor 3 yrs ago. When my Eddie's Doctor comes in he actually talks to me and my pets. Doctor Thession is just so loving. He really loves his job and our pets. Please come and support this family owned and operated clinic. You will not regret it and you will have the best vet in Santa Maria California! AS OF JAN 23, 2026 THEY DINT RETURN CALLS, CANT GET YOUR PETS MEDS, THEY SAY THEY WILL CALL YOUR PETS IN AND DONT. I HAD TO WAIT 3 WEEKS BEFORE I GOT HER 2ND TIME OF MEDS, NOW I CANT GET ANY AT ALL. The staff was very kind and welcoming, but I do have some concerns that I believe are important to share. The veterinarian I saw was extremely elderly and appeared to struggle significantly with mobility—he required assistance just to walk, sit, and move between rooms. This made me feel uneasy, especially when it comes to trusting someone with my pet’s health and safety. This isn’t to discredit his years of experience or compassion, but there were moments where I genuinely questioned whether he was physically and mentally capable of handling an emergency situation or performing a thorough examination independently. Because of his advanced age, I also found myself doubting the soundness of his judgment in diagnosing and treating my dog. I absolutely respect older professionals continuing

When i took in my dog who was very sick and they basically told me the best option was to put him to sleep and so i had to make a super hard decision in that moment that i wasnt expecting to. As i was crying and saying my goodbyes one of the owners with red hair with an accent was extremely rude and literally scolded me for crying and not closing the door as I’m literally in tears as my dog is taking his last final breaths and than proceeds to shut the door hard. She is super rude and very unprofessional. Other times i’ve gone in and heard her scold some of the staff in front of customers/patients. Front desk employees were very kind and helpful. Doctor rejected seeing our dog once I told them I was a military member and out of state so a family member would be taking in my dog. They did not accept me using a power of attorney to sign for having my pet cared for.

They are excellent at Santa Maria Animal Hospital. Dr.Thiessen is amazing, warm hearted and puts you and the animals at total ease. Super awesome place I would highly recommend. Great energy and friendly helping hands. My regular vet refused to see her bc of her fragility and ER refused her as well bc it was not an emergency so I called Santa Maria Animal Hospital and they saw her, did the tests she needed for her cardiologist and along the way we went!
