A Trusted Pet Store with Top-Notch Service Despite the negative reputations that some pet stores get, my experiences at the PetSmart in Shelby, NC, have always been positive. I've purchased fantail goldfish and betta fish here, along with all the necessary fish care items, thanks to their excellent prices and rewards program. I’ve never even seen a dead fish in any of the tanks and my fantail goldfish has thrived and grown considerably in just two months! The staff are friendly and I always see the same helpful faces. However, I did witness an employee being rude and refusing to sell tropical fish to customers who were clearly knowledgeable about their purchases, which was disappointing and the reason for my 4 star rating. Overall, PetSmart in Shelby is a fantastic place for pet owners,

Was told conflicting info about delivery days. The employee told us to come back on their delivery day and what time the aquatic animals would be available, this employee also gave bizarre and unusual "facts" about a different animal. When we returned the other employees looked puzzled that we were told this due to their delivery day being a completely different day. And the particular animal we were looking for wouldn't be in for another week. Over all this one employee made the trip disappointing. Did purchase two other critters to make the 45 minute ride worth it.

Staff very friendly and helpful. We had booked a more expensive grooming and haircut for our dog and they actually recommended we save money and go for the trim since he didn't need a major haircut. Turned out really well.

Had a pretty good experience here at this pet smart, till I decided to go visit the kitties that are up for adoption. And I was really upset to find the condition that the cats lived in. The kennels were so dirty with food and litter everywhere. I never witnessed the kennel area at any other pet smart be quite this disgusting before. This needs to be taken care of immediately, and kept from happening any further.

This was my first time ever being at this Petsmart! There were two people working. A blondish brown hair young guy and a girl with dark brown long hair! She is the one who assisted me. She is very rude and condescending to say the least! I didn't appreciate being made to feel as if I didn't know what I was talking about! So when I asked a question to her she became very snarky!!! Again she talked very snippy and almost as she didn't want to assist me! Got to the register she told the other person to ring me up! Needless to say we will NOT be returning! The one in Gastonia is much better! With very pleasant employees!! Date I visited 12-19-25
