We adopted Loki, who is the sweetest cat. One of the people who work at the shelter actually brought our attention to him. With the holidays there were some interruptions in the adoption process, but this cat slid into our family perfectly.

As a shelter volunteer (not at this shelter), I don't like to leave a bad review for another shelter because my heart aches for these dogs that are surrendered for a number of reasons. I also have a lot of appreciation for the shelter staff/volunteers. However, as my family's first experience on the adoption side with this particular shelter, I think people should be aware of our recent experience. The staff was nice to us, but had they communicated that the dog we ended up updating our adoption application for, which we had seen Wednesday, was going to be transferred to the Athens Area Humane Society Friday or that there was even a possibility of this happening if we did not adopt the dog we were interested in by Friday, I would not be leaving a 2-star review. I emailed the shelter that

Do not ever use MOAS (Madison-Oglethorpe Animal Shelter). I’d give them a zero if I could. They’ve stolen and spayed a puppy without consent and refused to give her back to her owners even with proper proof of ownership, etc. her owners made it VERY clear they did not wish for their dog to be spayed. The owner has been calling since Thursday (and shocker! No one answered! Or rushed her off the phone!) and they were continuously given the run around, told they couldn’t have their dog, etc, and then MOAS listed their dog for adoption. The owner works in vet med and has over $1700 in vet records for her and she’s only a year old. They’ve made her re-adopt her OWN dog, who is now spayed, and unable to continue her show career. This dog was also a hunting dog. I’m so beyond livid right now. I

Refusing to give a dog back to its rightful owners after they provided proof and paperwork that the dog was theirs and social media post of the dog missing before she was even brought to the shelter and still refused to let the owners take their dog home without making them pay an adoption fee and said she had to be spayed or they couldn’t release her! This is absolutely ridiculous. Animal shelters aren’t supposed to hold animals from their rightful owners and definitely shouldn’t have the right to spay someone’s dog AFTER they had already been in contact trying to get their baby back. I hope their lawyer hits this place where it hurts and I hope it hurts bad enough that they are forced to shut down. This place is a disgrace and should not be allowed to operate. Thinking you have the right

I cannot imagine the absolute cruel heartedness it would take to withhold someone’s dog from them with full proof, then put them through a medical procedure that only YALL wanted them to go through. Sick, unethical, as someone who volunteered many years at shelters yall are the reason people stay away. If this were someone’s human child, yall would be in prison. Pathetic behavior from an “animal shelter”
