Quick and easy adoption process with lovely Lauren and her team for our beautiful kitty girl Ember! Large facility full of wonderful volunteers who clearly care deeply for the animals. Our girl was so well socialized and it’s so evident by her trusting nature of both humans and cats alike. Thank you Last Hope for saving our girl and her whole litter and helping them and countless others find their forever homes!

We adopted our sweet dog from Last Hope Animal Shelter in Wantagh last month, and it has been the best addition to our family. She is so gentle, loving, and calm — truly the sweetest soul. She filled a hole in our home we didn’t even realize was there and brings us joy every single day. You can tell the team at Last Hope genuinely cares; they treat every animal with compassion, patience, and love. The adoption process was smooth, and the staff made sure we felt supported and informed. Highly recommend this amazing shelter to anyone looking to adopt!

Seemed like a great place, looked promising. Never got a response. I was trying to submit my volunteer application and they never replied, not even after a follow up email. 2 stars because they look like they do good work for animals. I do not recommend.

The staff here truly care about the welfare of the animals and it is always clean here. All the animals seem genuinely happy and the staff are always helpful in helping visitors explore their options when looking for a companion, whether it be a dog or cat. They help cater to you depending on your needs and what you are currently looking for. Everything is fairly priced and the adoption process is seamless. All the animals are healthy too. I would highly recommend this shelter to anyone looking to adopt!

I had rescued a dog from last hope rescue in Wantagh in May 2014. She was believed to be 2-3 years old. Two women actually came to check out my house before I could adopt her. She was a big dog. She was part white Lab and White German shepherd. They called her Theresa. I brought her home and changed her name to Millie. She was the best dog I ever had. She passed away September 2023 from cancer. I believe she lived about 11-12 years total. She was a happy silly dog and I gave her a good life. Fact of the matter is Millie really rescued me. I would adopt again from this rescue and recommend others do as well. They also have a thrift store in Huntington to support the rescue.
