Obviously, the emergency vet is not where anyone wants to be but the IVS facility is immaculate and the staff is incredible! I’ve been there 4-5 times in the last couple of years and have been more than pleased each time. Upon arrival, the lobby appears and smells freshly cleaned. I was given a detailed cost breakdown to review before we went forward with anything. The receptionist, Abe, was incredibly kind and accommodating. He was extremely personable and pleasant - exactly what you need when in a place such as an emergency vet. The tech, Riley, was patient, friendly, and understanding of my very stubborn Shiba. She answered all of my questions and took my concerns very seriously. The vet, Melissa, was also very friendly and kind. She explained everything thoroughly and provided reassur

IVS saved my duck’s life - thank you so much to the caring and supportive team over there, you are superheroes!! They are truly there for you when you need them most. We had a duck with a severe facial abscess. The veterinary team treated her with compassion, skill, and urgency — everyone was so sweet and so helpful walking me through next steps to help her heal. For everything they did price was extremely reasonable as well. Even though they hadn’t had a duck in office before they handled Maggie the duck with such knowledge, care, and gave us the confidence to keep going. As you can see by the before and after pictures - Maggie is doing so much better. Within a week of her visit she was 100% healthy again, comfortable, and back in the coop with her sisters. It was priceless to see how ex

The receptionist was very un knowledgeable and simply just pushed the $200 fee to just see our bunny. Would not recommend unless it’s a dire situation. I never even went in because the receptionist was inconsiderate over the phone. This was on 12-13-25 around 9pm. UPDATE: We had to go in later that night because of a dire situation with our bunny. The receptionist was just as bad in person as she was over the phone if not worse. Prepare for expensive prices, and an unwelcoming vibe overall. They won’t let you see the doctor take a look at your pet… They take your pet into another room and you’re stuck waiting in the room I have pictures of while your pet is being checked out. The doctor herself seemed to be OK though.

Thank you, to your entire team!! And Dr. Ribbey, we are so thankful for her, she is so nice & thorough, we love how she truly takes care of your animals. She is the best! ❤️ Dr Ribbey, of course!! But, all the team that was there for us on Friday the 13th. We appreciate you all!! ❤️ They helped w/fluids & meds to help Mokie poop again & feel so much better as quickly as the next day, she was back to herself.

If I could leave negative stars I would. It was a Saturday evening when I noticed my African Grey acting strangely at dinner time. He looked like he was nodding off and almost fell off his perch. He did this several times over the course of a few minutes and the skin around his eyes had also turned dark blue. This is extremely unusual behavior for a parrot so I went to Ankeny Avian’s website as they were his vet, which had emergency clinics listed as Blue Pearl and Iowa Vet Specialties. I called both and found Blue Pearl doesn’t have an avian vet. I am absolutely appalled at the service of Iowa Vet Specialties. When I called and asked if they had an avian vet on staff that night she asked what kind of parrot. She said they don’t see macaws or cockatoos there, but do see African Greys and t
