Victoria and her team are true professionals. I have been working with Hunter Mill retrievers since 2024 shortly after I got my Lab pup Coda and they have been immensely supportive and helpful ever since starting with training, followed by doggy daycare, followed by extensive dog walking during a period after some surgery during which I was unable to do it myself. There is a family feel to the business, which makes it all the more appealing. I strongly recommend this company if you have a retriever, or any large dog, as they truly understand the domain like no other in the area.

We turned to Victoria of HMR desperate to gain control of our rambunctious, spirited 5 months old Lab puppy. We’re experienced dog owners, but this puppy was a handful. It’s been an amazing transformation—literally after the first session. Maya not only became more obedient, she’s much calmer overall, more attentive and more affectionate. I can’t thank Victoria enough for all her help with Scooter. Moving from NJ to VA—especially from a house with a backyard to an apartment—was a big adjustment for him, and after he was bitten by a dog on a walk just six weeks after our move, he became reactive towards others. Victoria gave me the tools and confidence to manage everything from surprise dog encounters in the building to dealing with unruly dogs. Her personalized approach made all the difference—Scooter is more calm, and I’m more confident in handling situations. Victoria was amazing with Inara, who we adopted in February of 2025. She helped us find ways to wear Inara out, and teach her some big obedience needs, which completely turned around her biting and rough play and now, three months later, Inara is like a new pup! Inara looked forward to every session and was so eager to 'play' and work for those treats! Her use of positive reinforcement may take a bit more work but it's so worth it in the long run as it creates an amazing relationship between dog and owner. Victoria has been working with our pup, Stanley, on a weekly basis since he was 10 weeks old. He is now 5.5 months, and the work put in has truly paid off! We have worked on basic obedience, like place and leave it, as well as additional skills like extended stay and loose leash training. Victoria is thorough, patient, and Stanley absolutely loves working with her! She has also helped to equip my husband and I with the necessary tools to continue his training between our weekly sessions. Stanley has also stayed with Victoria while we were out of town. We received plenty of picture updates, and it was reassuring to know Stanley was safe and in excellent hands.
