Hoffmann's Reptile Shop

Hands down the best reptile shop I’ve ever encountered. I met Dan in 1991 while babysitting a 2 year old Nile monitor while his owner was sent overseas serving in the Navy. Then 2 years later when he went back to his owner, he couldn’t believe how docile it had become. All it took was attention and handling not just leaving it in a cage with no interaction except feeding. Dan had received a young neglected Columbian Tegu needing a home and knew that although aggressive I would work with him. I had my Tegu ** DAX** for 14 years, He passed in 2007. He had been all over California, flown to Montana where I lived for a while and then back to California. He had been boarded several times at Hoffmans. Literally the worst reptile shop I have ever been to. Reptiles do not stink unless they are not getting taken care of. Only 1 of the reptiles had a hide which makes them feel vulnerable. My husband who isn't even a reptile person said "this is the saddest reptile store I have been to" I genuinely have no idea how this place has any support because even PetSmart and Petco take better care of their reptiles. I will continue to go to east bay vivarium where they actually take care of their animals and are actually educated on them

My last visit was definitely a very sad experience. They didn't have black soilder larvae, they didn't have butterworms, they didn't have dubias S or M. I had to sacrifice 25 of the 30 I bought because my gecko couldn't eat one that size. The hornworms were also only large. The store is dirty and sad, and the reptiles for sale lack the minimum living conditions, such as warmth and hiding places.

The employee there is friendly. Polite,and professional. They remember my order. I'm usually in and out within 5 minutes

Love this place and so does my 3 year old he absolutely loves all the reptiles if only his mom did too we would have one!
