I lost my babyboy at the age of 17 and needed to rescue a new puppy in his honor. I completed the application online and then went in to adopt. The staff was very friendly and patient. The facility is clean and the dogs looked healthy and taken care of. I was able to adopt same day and brought home my babygirl. I've always chosen rescues to adopt as my preference and this was a great place to start.

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE this place! I adopted an elder daschund Mr Bailey back in 2016 and it was a great experience. Took a minute but we got him all taken care of and he got a good home. He has since passed and I regularly drop off donated items for the shelter. & you should too! If you’re looking to adopt or volunteer i highly recommend this place. They are underrated and organized. I haven’t adopted here, but I visit here every time I go to Topeka. I just want to say thank you guys for encouraging adoption, the cleanliness of the facility, ALL of the information you provide on the pets (personality, breed, etc.), and ensuring that animals are spayed and neutered and vaccinated. I live where these standards are not quite met at our local shelter, so it gives me optimism that you put the most effort and care into what you do. When the time comes to adopt, I will be back in here!

We adopted a special needs lil guy in 2021 He just turned 6 years old in November 2025 .Best thing to Ever Happen to our family. Facultie was nice and clean the animals looked like the staff actually take good care of them. And they r really nice. Thank you for my fur.babie

We like to go into the shelter to see the animals and to see if any of them are older. We found a dog we wanted to meet not necessarily adopt. We wanted to see if he would fit into our family first. Our place of residency is in Montana but we have a condo here. We filled out the paperwork thinking we would get to meet the dog but was told we couldn't because they couldn't confirm the condos rules about animals. We get that , but we just wanted to meet the dog. If we were to go to the pet store we could first meet and interact with the animal before getting it. We always get our animals from rescue places even our first dog which we got from the humane shelter when it was in North Topeka. With this policy that you have in place now, we will NOT adopt from here. FYI, the dog would have gon
