Heartland Equine Hospital

As a long-time horse owner, it’s so important to have access to large animal veterinary care. When our local vet retired, we found the most wonderful veterinary hospital in our area! The owners and all who work with them have made this hospital and service state of the art. Before, we’d have to take our horses to K-State (which is also wonderful), but too far away in an emergency. And they don’t make house calls! They always have someone on call and available—so important in an emergency situation. Each vet I have worked with has been knowledgeable, professional, and caring. The owners, Eric and Kelly, and particularly Dr Bryce, helped us with our 35-year old horse, Smokey, after a severe case of choke. I cannot say enough good things about Heartland Equine Hospital and their dedicated team. They have gone above and beyond, time and time again for my horses, and it is an incredible privilege. When my horse was struggling with on and off lameness, they thoroughly investigated the issue, and were quick to make time to see her when progress wasn't being made. When I needed to make an emergency call, they were swift to respond and help create an appropriate plan to support my equine. Big, intimidating diagnoses are broken down in an easy to understand manner, and when possible, you're given multiple ways to approach the issue depending on what works best for you and your horse. This is a team that is truly dedicated to your horse, and I trust them 100%.

After I couldn't get my regular vet to come out for an emergency with my senior horse, I contacted HEH. They were very responsive and arrived quickly. Both Dr. Kelly and Dr. Eric were very compassionate and thorough. Unfortunately I had to euthanize my horse, and I'm honestly glad that they were the ones to do it. They made my terrible situation better and I would definitely recommend them to anyone. Dr. Kelly even took a few photos of me and my horse beforehand and offered suggestions for cremation services. If I had another horse, I'd be switching to them immediately!

I can’t say enough good things about Dr. Carlson and the team at Heartland Equine Hospital. My Paso Fino mare was being transported from Ohio to Utah when she suddenly colicked in the middle of the night near Kansas City. The driver called five different vets before reaching Heartland—who graciously took her in around 3:00 AM without hesitation. From the moment they received her, their team was incredibly responsive, compassionate, and thorough. They immediately started IV fluids, gave her GI rest, and monitored her closely. Not only did they get her comfortable and back to normal quickly, but they also repaired lacerations she had sustained during the episode—with careful attention and expert surgical care. They really care about horses, very friendly, patient, and knowledgeable team. Their facility is great, very easy to drop off and pick up, their stalls are clean and well maintained, and their pricing is very fair.
