Furkids Animal Rescue & Shelters - Dog Shelter

We adopted Aespa this week. I called FurKids explained our family and somewhat what we may be looking for and Tina found us the perfect pup. They are all wonderful and truly love animals and what they do. I cannot wait for their new beautiful facility to open so they can do more wonderful work!

I have donated thousands of dollars to Furkids. I finally show up to look at dogs for adoption… They won’t let me look at them at all. They have an extensive appointment and application process in which they even have to get references from old veterinarians that you’ve gone to 10 years ago. The entire time I felt judged and accused. I’ve had dogs my entire life and they were accusing me of not treating my old dogs well just because I didn’t feel like going over all the details of every dog I’ve ever had. Mind you, I drove for over an hour hoping to just be able to see some dogs and start opening my heart up to falling in love with a new dog by meeting them in person. That’s the other thing, they will never let you walk around, looking at all the dogs. They want you to pick a dog online f

We went to an adoption event on Union Hill Rd. 3 weeks ago yesterday. Met an adorable dog named Basil. Everyone from furkids kept telling us how “chill” she was. One volunteer actually brought her a pup cup especially for her …which told me how she stole his ❤️. We unfortunately could not bring her home with us that day as I was dog sitting for a friend that evening. We took our chances that she would still be available the following day at the Alpharetta location…and she was! We went to meet her again that afternoon and it was clear that she was a great fit. We have since named her Lilly, put in a doggie door and fenced in our back yard. She has totally exceeded our expectations. Great organization to volunteer for a good cause. The dogs here are in need of forever homes and helping these dogs get walks and assisting such a wonderful organization is a good thing. Volunteering is easy to sign up for on their website and there are easy dogs to walk and more challenging ones. Free water is given to volunteers and younger volunteers require an adult to supervise. 5 stars and Happy New Year!
