Douglas Animal Shelter

So glad I didn’t take the stray dog I found here. Always find a no kill shelter and a not for profit. This is awful.

Seems like this place is for profit, at the expense of animals and people. If the animal appears sick or not likely to be adopted fast, they kill it, but at least the get $75. If the animal does get adopted, they make the $75 plus $100 - $300 more. I really feel bad after leaving the sweet puppy there, that I couldn't care for. The puppy looked at me as like, "Where are you going?," as I said goodbye and walked out the door. It felt like I betrayed the puppy I'd taken care of for several weeks, while trying to find an adoptive shelter and a good home for it. I think I left the poor dog just to be euthanized after all of my love and efforts.

Thinking of getting a dog from here a small chichihua maybe I adopted from here before it was awesome looking forward to another one

They straight up refused to take a stray kitten I took up there, but told me that I could pay $35 as an owner surrender and they would put it down. So they couldn’t take it as a stray but could take it if they got paid?

Answered my questions. I informed them what pets I looking for and they took me to what they had available. First time to an animal shelter, it was a bit shocking. The pets were wanting to go home right away.
