Dogwood Animal Shelter

Great experience! Very organized and efficient. I adopted the sweetest chihuahua puppy “Marge” from Dogwood shelter. I highly recommend them. They ran a very thorough background check on me and where I lived to make sure that I could provide a good home for the puppy. Thank you. Kim

I love this shelter. I have been to others at the lake none are as friendly or as clean as this one. The selection of dogs is just great. When my dog passed I donated all her things to them and have sent them donations from their Amazon List, they were so loving and said when and if I am ready they will help find a new fur baby. Highly recommended, honesty and caring is everything.

This is the most organized and well-run facility I have ever seen. I love volunteering here. They do a ton of events, and several local businesses are involved in raising funds to help the shelter - it's so great to see the community involvement they have achieved. This only comes from hard working leadership and board members, and a team who truly cares.

Was interested in adopting a dog, but was told they won't adopt a dog that isn't going to be an inside dog, despite us telling them the dog we have comes in at night and is crate trained and is a happy dog. I would like to know why it's any of their business where or how we house our dogs. We will not only not be adopting from here, but we will also let others know that this is not the type of facility you want to adopt from. We are kind and loving pet owners, and any dog adopted would be spoiled and a part of our family. Go to the Jefferson City Animal Shelter! They want dogs to find forever homes, not just kept in cages all day at a shelter.

The staff members who greet you are very friendly. Some of the smaller dogs are in temporary runs inside where you can pet them. I was even allowed to hold one (no appointment arranged). I had just stopped inside to ask a few questions about the application process.
