This was the most depressing pet store I have ever been in. The lady never wanted to talk to me at all about any of the animals and all the rabbits were in tiny cages and it smelled like pee in there. There was a rabbit in the back room with flicking lights in a cage with cobwebs all over it. The parrot they had who was almost 30 years old looked like the crazy bird from rio like so sad would not recommend them. They also had like no product

I had adopted two rats from here about 2 years ago, one ended up having life long Mycoplasma pulmonis, the rats they have are extremely neglected, the breeding rats stick in small glass cages pulled on top of each other being bred over n over until passing, babies stuck in small cages, and the feed they offer is NOT at all nutritious to the rats and it next to considered neglect (it’s literal bird feed) please do not buy from here, I’m going to have to deal with a early heartbreak because cheese people can’t care for animals like they should! In no way should this place be up and running still, the 4 stars amaze me considering how bad they are

I remember coming here as a child and having such fascination with the animals. I absolutely loved this store. What do they say “ Ignorance is Bliss”. However, After just recently visiting as an adult with some animal care knowledge. I am mortified with the condition of the animals. The animal care is abusive and neglectful. I witnessed a tank with multiple bearded dragons with tail rot or injuries sustained from cohabiting these dragons. Dragons are solitary animals. They also lacked the proper husbandry which should have included a UVB light which prevents dragons from developing MBD and also helps digest their food. The enclosure was unsanitary with large amounts of feces. Most of these babies will need vet care to amputate the rest of their tails. I can only imagine the parasites load

If your looking to support a local family owned and operated business this is it for pope county. However don't expect to pay fair prices or gain advanced knowledge as I not only disagreed with most information given to me as well as being able to prove otherwise with their own fish tanks along with them contradicting themselves. I bought a red tail catfish for $24.99, which died 6 days later. Called to ask if they had a health guarantee or exchange program and was met with ( those fish have been in MY tank for 2 months with no issues, I can test you tank water and tap water but that's its). All other fish are doing fine, pet smart is half if not more of the price and have a 14 day health guarantee no questions asked with proof of purchase.
