Campbell County Animal Shelter

11/22/24 - Campbell County Animal Shelter has significantly improved over the years. With the help & generosity of its staff and volunteers, they have really cleaned up and organized the place! Like all animal shelters around the country, they have a difficult time answering the phones; and it usually not their fault. They have constant visitors, volunteers & of course animal coming and going every hour every day. The newer staff are a lot more friendly, but I can understand their stern attitude toward negligent owners. Everything is clean and sanitary.

Had such a discouraging experience with this shelter. Had been interested in adopting a dog that hadn’t been shown any interest since his intake in September. So I called to inquire about him. The lady on the phone told me that dog was “already spoken for” and was leaving the next day. I was disappointed, but was happy he got adopted. A week later, my boyfriend called to inquire a different dog, and asked if the original dog we wanted had been returned just as a shot in the dark and the lady told us he had never been adopted and he’s getting transferred to NEW YORK NEXT WEEK. My boyfriend said “We’ll take him so he doesn’t have to get transferred”. The lady said it wasn’t allowed in their policy to adopt out a dog that was in a transfer agreement with a different shelter. They must not want their dogs to get adopted. We went in to try and adopt one and everything was going good until it was time for a meet and greet, with Tim and my current dog. I personally feel like they should have a separate enclosed area for meet and greets, instead of just having them meet outside. As they have cats running all over. My dog doesn’t like cats much so I’m sure you know how that went. Along with the other dogs non stop barking. Which is understandable but what I don’t understand is how they expect a dog who has not ever been there but for the first time, to be calm in the environment. The people were fairly nice tho and amazing with the animals.

If I'm being completely honest I would give them zero Stars if I could not only have we been calling for weeks well before Christmas that we need them to come get two dogs we don't have the means to take care of them we don't have the energy and they keep telling us oh we'll come get them we'll come get them and they've never showed up people on the phone or rude they do not like to answer I've had to call them at least 10 times for them to even answer all in all we need better people at our animal shelter

Actually great place, they all are very busy with taking care of the animals and paperwork so I was not able to get them on the phone, but when I walked in they were able to help out.
