Buffalo Animal Shelter

We rescued our cat Toast (formerly Adonis) from the CBAS early last month and couldn’t be more happy about our outcome. We always recommend adopting from shelters, and are happy we came here. Karen was so sweet and lots of help, we appreciate all she does for the kitty’s at CBAS and assuring they find good homes!

I would not recommend this place. It took forever to be able to get our cat bc their volunteer was being weird. Almost like she didn’t want me to adopt a cat. She kept trying to talk me out of it and telling me to wait a year because I’m not ready??? We ended up getting our cat but since the volunteers have been texting and calling me consistently for updates on the cat. It’s borderline harassment atp. I’m not obligated to keep in touch and give constant updates on my cat. This has rubbed me the wrong way. I’d steer anyone away from adopting from here.

The City of Buffalo Animal Shelter is an amazing organization that does so many things both publicly and behind the scenes to save as many dogs and cats as possible in the City of Buffalo. It is a municipal organization that lacks a lot of funding, but the people who both work and volunteer there care so deeply for the animals and are truly a lifeline for so many abused and abandoned creatures that would be euthanized in any other city. I’ve adopted all of my dogs and cats from here and they’ve been the best pets I’ve ever owned. The shelter is extremely understaffed and relies on volunteers to help take care of the animals, so please be patient and keep in mind that everyone here is doing their best with what they have to work with. We went on a Saturday morning and picked out our boy formerly named Dojo after seeing him online the night before. They online description was spot on. One of the volunteers helped us let us take our boy outside and they went so far as to bring out another dog so we could see how he interacts with other dogs. They let us take our time and answered all of our questions. Our Dollar has found his forever home and we will be back once he settles in a bit more for a brother or sister for him. Thank you to all the Volunteers who work at this shelter and help all those pets who need them.

This is the worst shelter I have seen, I have been here several times dropping off donations and it sickens me to think that these poor animals live like this. Urine and feces all in the cages that the dogs keep stepping in, small cramped cage for large dogs giving them no room . The stench makes you gag, anyone wanting to adopt a pet wouldn't stay long enough to see what pets were available because you can't breathe in there. An investigation needs to be done, this is inhumane and cruel to those poor animals. The director clearly does not even care about the animals or he would not let them live in those condition. This makes no sense they need to investigate this place now and be a help save those dogs from such horriffic conditions. DO BETTER BUFFALO
