Bedford County Animal Shelter

So the building itself isn't the greatest, and I wish their hours were a bit better. BUT, if you're looking for a cat, this is the place to go! I literally spent an entire day going around to shelters looking for a cat to adopt & I tell you, Bedford Animal Shelter is the BEST place. Whenever I've asked about a cat they told me details about them, their adoption fee isn't outrageous like other shelters. The kitty I left with has been SO perfect for our house, he's been a perfect companion I've missed so much since losing my 2 cats within a year of each other...I couldn't have asked for a better cat & I can't be more grateful to Bedford Animal Shelter for blessing me with him. <3 I definitely will not be looking anywhere but here for any future adoptions.

We adopted our senior boy Toby from the Bedford County Animal Shelter, and I have never met a more devoted group of individuals fighting to give all the animals at their facility, from dogs & cats to bunnies & guinea pigs, the best chance at a good home. The staff set us up with medication, food, toys and a dog bed for Toby, which was completely unexpected but super appreciated. I am grateful for all they do for the animals.

This is not a place that cares about animals. The conditions they keep the animals in are terrible. They put a cat that they knew had RSV with several healthy kittens that didn’t exposing that to them. A staff member denied our application for a cat because our very expensive shoe breed dog wasn’t fixed and the staff member was rude and condescending to my wife.

We've never thought about adopting in our past..until we lost our baby boy that we had for 17yrs. My heart was broken and empty. I was afraid I would not be able to love another 4 legged family member... Until my husband just started showing me pictures of "ALL," potentials at the shelter feeling the same as I was. Just wanting to be loved and to reciprocate love. SO, we saw one we wanted to meet. It wasn't meant for her to be with us, upon dropping by, she had just been adopted. Then a very special lady that works at the shelter wanted us to meet Momma M. It was Love at first sight!!!!! The love, laughter, tenderness and joy Momma M has brought to our lives in just 3 months is beyond comprehension!!!! A few years ago I had to euthanize two of my dogs. I was crushed. My son and husband made me go to the shelter. They let me take a German Shepherd out to meet my other two. They did not like him. They suggested a black lab. Needless to say are hearts have been so full. He has always helped when we were sad and has brought so much love to our family. He is now our grandson’s favorite! He has helped my husband with PTSD. Just the beat match! I can’t thank you guys enough! I am so grateful to these wonderful people!
