I adopted a cat from Bakersfield SPCA and overall the staff were polite. However, I was told at the time that I could exchange the cat if it wasn’t a good fit, and there was no clear explanation about a 10-day limit or a $100 fee. When I came back after 15 days, I was told I had to pay the fee, which was frustrating because I would have made my decision earlier if this had been clearly explained. I respect their policies and their mission to help animals, but I hope they can improve communication so adopters fully understand all conditions upfront. Transparency makes a big difference in the adoption experience.

I had been keeping an eye on a dog at the Bakersfield SPCA for months, and I couldn’t believe my luck when she was still there waiting for us when the time was finally right. Booking a meet and greet was incredibly simple, and the team worked quickly to get us scheduled. While our dogs didn’t immediately hit it off, I could tell there was potential, and the staff made us feel confident in the process. We ended up adopting her, and it truly has been the best decision we’ve ever made. She’s brought so much joy to our lives! I’m incredibly grateful to the SPCA staff for their patience and support throughout the entire process. If you found a lost dog don't bring them here. They want to charge you $30 to leave it with them to notify the owner. To begin with you need an appointment and they will be rude as hell to you if you don't have one and its urgent. I went there to drop off a lost dog I found on Christmas, and they told me they charged $30 for dropping an animal off. I told them no, I wouldn't do that, but if they could scan the dog for a chip that would be appreciated so I could reunite him with the owner. They said sure, went ahead and scanned him and went to pull the information up. I was later told that they supposedly couldn't give me the information on the chip so I would have to leave the dog with them for them to call the owner.... We just adopted our puppy and had a wonderful experience. The staff was friendly and helpful. The facility was so clean, they take good care of their animals. Although the fee is high to adopt a puppy, it was so nice to have a little one that is already spayed, microchipped and had their first shots. We also got a quality bag of food, a collar with engraved tag, and a brand new soft blanket. Highly recommend them!

We had a wonderful experience last weekend when we rescued from the Bakersfield, SPCA. They do a thorough check to ensure their pets go to good homes. We brought our dog to a meet and greet with the puppy we were interested in adopting, and it went smoothly. We had no issues and everyone there was so kind. I'm confused by some of the reviews because we had a great experience! We are so lucky and thankful we were able to rescue Northern after losing our cavalier King Charles last year. We are so excited for our new adventure as a family of four again.
