Aussie Rescue of Minnesota

This is an incredible rescue organization that is a massive force for good when it comes to animal welfare. I've adopted a dog via one of their fosters and I've also been to their physical site in Ada, MN and it was a great experience. Contrary to any review that skews negative regarding their adoption process I actually thought it was quite fast, fair and all done in the best interest of their animals. Their screening process is not excessive in any way. They are essentially making sure that those looking to adopt are capable of providing exemplary care for a dog and for dog ownership in general - some people aren't! I will start by saying this rescue cares deeply about their dogs and clearly want the best possible future for them. However, the application and approval process is completely backwards. Before even speaking to us, they had 15+ minute in-depth phone interviews with my three references. By in-depth I mean asking questions like is my husband “in it for the long haul”, if we are making friends in the new town we moved to, if we are introverted or extroverted, why we’ve had so many dogs in recent years (we have adopted many seniors in the past decade which, sadly, don’t live very long. 12/2/23 - I would not do any placement with this Rescue. The "requirement" of having to do heartwarming with the dog, for six months - that I purchase, whether the dog would "need" it or not, is not their decision. It would be mine and my Dr. of Vet. When mentioned that I take my current dogs to a Holistic Vet., I was, and my Holistic Vet. when put down promptly. Being a former "top" breeder in the state of MN, potential "life changing" decisions should be made by the owner of the dog.

They really care about placing the dogs in appropriate homes, which drew me to this rescue, and for that I can recommend them. However trying to communicate with them is abysmal. It seems like all the volunteers are overworked at best, and upper management disorganized and cold at worst. I submitted an application on a Sunday, and my references were called the very next day - great! One of my references missed the ARM representative's call and was never able to get in touch with them; he left voicemails and called back multiple times over several days to no avail. The rep emailed me that same Monday night with some followup questions and I replied right away. Then radio silence. I patiently waited a week and asked for an update, and how long the process should take - the rep just said she
