Vernon Parish Animal Shelter

This animal shelter was not helpful, and whoever I spoke to had a bad attitude. I explained my situation and that I couldn’t care for my dog anymore, and she said “well if the animal didn’t come from us then there is nothing we can do to help you, your better off posting it online” I don’t know if there animals are treated any good if this is the attitude when you pick up the phone

Have now adopted 2 kittens from here. Both have been very healthy and FIV free. I always kept them secluded from my older cat until they were checked by my vet and slowly introduced to my household (I also have a dog). Cannot praise the staff highly enough for their work, attitudes and dedication. This MUST be a selfless service. All that said, they SO need a larger facility as animals are cramped and sick animals must be housed in the room with well (please KNOW....DIFFERENT CAGES). Both times I have been in, the cat room was overflowing and I know dogs have to be euthanized just to allow more room in their area. They are a good group of folks doing their best to take good loving care of the animals.

This place is extremely irresponsible!!! They adopted a heartworm positive dog out to my son in law and didn't spay her either!!! Now the dog they adopted out is pregnant with heartworms!! I hope you all lose your license and your vet needs fired. You all broke tons of protocol for what? To add to the shelters later? Adopting out animals with health issues and without being fixed is not only irresponsible but ignorant and defeats the purpose of being a shelter. This place needs to be shut down and their medical staff fired. Ignorant ppl
