True North Rescue Mission

True north is a fantastic org and how we adopted our pup!! They run an extremely smooth, well organized program where they take dogs up from Texas to New York and immediately find them loving foster homes. It’s amazing seeing the volume of good that they’re able to do without even having a brick and mortar storefront — they rely entirely on fosters and adopters. I would look no further if you are looking for an org to foster dogs, or even adopt dogs, with. They’re true gems!

I'm sorry to read so many unfortunate reviews. There are never any guarantees when rescuing an animal. Most, if not all, organizations are trying to keep the dogs out of kill shelters and do not have the knowledge or background of the animal. You must enter into adoption/fostering with an open mind (and heart) and patience. We have had a terrible adoption experience (NOT with TRUE NORTH) and have recently had a wonderful adoption experience (WITH TRUE NORTH.) To be able to foster before making a decision is beneficial for all those that are involved. We were lucky to foster/adopt a dog with seemingly little issues - mental, emotional, or health. I’m a frequent foster at True North and can’t recommend them more! I’ve fostered at other rescues before where I felt undervalued and completely left out of the loop. I was so pleasantly surprised when I finally found my fit at true north! They are fast and reliable communicators and make you feel a part of this beautiful process. Plus, the dogs they rescue from Texas are AMAZING. They make the first time foster process so easy so if you’re thinking about getting into fostering they are the right team to go with!

I found True North through petfinder.com. Adoption process was smooth. I now have my fur daughter and I’m absolutely in love with her. Shout out to the great staff especially Dan! Communication was excellent and the foster mom (Mari) was amazing!! Thank you for helping me find my new baby, Chloe (formerly Brussels). Highly recommend if you’re looking to adopt!

We had a wonderful experience adopting through True North, and I highly recommend them. Our little guy came from Texas, and he was fully vaccinated and neutered before coming up here. When he came off the transport van, it was clear that he had been well cared for on the long ride up. True North truly cares about their dogs and about ensuring a good fit. They are organized, thorough and communicative. Their fosters really get to know the dogs and give much more thorough descriptions than other rescues do. I'm confused about why other reviewers are upset about the adoption fee, as True North is very transparent about their fee, and I could see for myself that they are putting that money to good use rescuing pups from Texas and helping them find their families in the NYC area.
